<div itemprop="description">Zammit, Carmel (Charlie) <br /> Retired employee of General Motors North Plant, Oshawa, after 21 years of service. <br /> <br /> On Monday, February 4th, with his family by his side, Carmel Zammit passed away peacefully after a sudden illness in his 77th year.&nbsp; Loving husband of Connie, they recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.&nbsp; He is predeceased by his dearest parents, Pawlu and Maria Zammit of Safi, Malta. <br /> Carmel grew up during turbulent times in Malta, his early childhood spent in and out of bomb shelters during the Second World War. He began his chosen career as an electrician on the dry docks in Grand Harbour before moving his young family to their new home in Canada.&nbsp; Beloved father of Stephen (Katharine), Marisa (Chris Charlinski) and Ann (Steven Fry), he raised his children with an abundance of love and laughs.&nbsp; Cherished Nannu of Tristan, Samantha, Brendan and Julia, he adored his grandchildren and was always there for them with hugs and kisses.&nbsp; Dear brother of Pauline Busuttil and Gemma Zammit of Malta.&nbsp; Carmel's kind and jovial spirit will be sadly missed by his extended family in Australia and Malta, and countless friends around the world.&nbsp; Special thanks to the Trauma and Critical Care teams at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for giving Carmel such professional and compassionate care.&nbsp; Friends may call at the MOUNT LAWN RECEPTION CENTRE, 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby (North of Highway 2), 905-443-3376, on Thursday, February 7, 2013, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m.&nbsp;at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 373 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa. Rite of Committal at Resurrection Cemetery.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation. <br /> <br /> </div>
