Ruth Mary Sullivan (née Lindsay) was born on December 10th 1924 in Toronto, to William and Margaret (née Whaling), the seventh of eleven children. Former wife of the late Gerald McHugh. She married Gerald McHugh in 1944. Ruth raised their three children in Toronto. On June 21st, 1980 she married Lloyd Sullivan. They retired to the Buckhorn area in 1984 and later moved to Peterborough in 2004. In 2013, Ruth and Lloyd relocated to Whitby to be closer to family.

On January 11th 2016, Ruth passed away unexpectedly at the age of 91, surrounded by loved ones. She was loving wife to Lloyd and mother to Janice McHugh and Cindy (Mike) Lynch, grandmother to Kristin and Carrie-Lee, sister to Paul (Jewel) and Margaret, aunt and cherished friend to many. Ruth is predeceased by her parents, eight of ten siblings, and son Gary McHugh.

Ruth’s warmth and bright smile will be sorely missed. Her strength, bravery and resilience will live on in our hearts and memory. Ruth enjoyed her garden (especially her raspberry bushes) and had a passion for sewing and quilting. A special thanks to all those who were kind, caring and helpful during the difficult times in recent years within Peterborough, Oshawa and Whitby.

As per her wishes, Ruth’s burial was attended by immediate family on January 15th, 2016.
In place of a service, we extend a sincere invitation to family, friends and acquaintances. Drop by for the celebration of her life on Saturday, January 30th anytime between 1:00 and 4:00 PM in the Providence Place Lounge at Durham Christian Homes (200 Glen Hill Drive South, Whitby).

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an organization of your choice. Feel free to leave memories or condolences on the Mount Lawn Cemetery website, or share them with us on January 30th at Ruth’s Good Life Lived Gathering.
