<div itemprop="description">Humphries, Dr. Paul Wellington. <br> <br>Passed away peacefully with his wife, Ilona Humphries (Heyland), at his side on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the age of 75. He is the much-loved father of Jennifer and Tamara Humphries and Corinna Regnier (Husband Alain Regnier), and a doting grandfather to Lara and Kaitlin Sachko. He loved and is missed by Andy Zwolinski and his son Ryan. <br> <br>As the son of Learl and Dorothy (Waters) Humphries and brother of Maurine Hall (Husband Dr. Gordon Hall) and Darwin Humphries (Wife Mary-Lou [Baxter] Humphries), he grew up in Hastings, Ontario and worked at the family store, the Humphries Red & White, before earning his medical degree from Queen’s University in 1966. <br> <br>Dr. Humphries completed his internship at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, and practiced at the Peterborough Clinic before joining the Addiction Research Foundation in Northern Ontario, where he worked hands-on with patients. In 1976, he joined the Ministry of the Solicitor General and Correctional Services. During his approximately 30 years with the Ministry, he helped pioneer programs including the meth program, the mobile mental health team, the nurse practitioner program and policies regarding safe use of constraints. He spoke province-wide about safe health practices when HIV and AIDS became a concern. Dr. Humphries was proud of his close association with the Federal Correctional Services of Canada, the R.C.M.P., and the Ontario Provincial Police. <br> <br>Throughout his life, he was devoted to helping people. He was often first recognized for his glowing smile and then remembered fondly for how he compassionately listened to people. They always felt heard and understood. <br>His favourite pastimes included reading and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs from the comfort of his favourite chair. He also loved cars, the family dogs, exercising, and martial arts. He acquired a black belt in Kung Fu. His love for music led him to learn to play the drums, the violin, the guitar, the trumpet, the clarinet, and the piano. He is remembered for his protective instinct and love for his family. He is sadly missed already. <br> <br>Visitations will take place at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, (N of Hwy #2) 905 443-3376 on Friday, July 1 from 6 – 8 p.m. and Saturday July 2 from 10 - 11 a.m. with a Memorial Service to commence in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Burial and committal service at Trent Valley Cemetery, Hastings on Sunday, July 3 at 1:30 pm. and will be followed by a tea reception at Trinity United Church in Hastings.
