Jack Westlake

1919 - 2016

On May 24, 2016, after a life very well lived, dad peacefully passed away at home in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family. On June 29th of this year, Jack and Thelma would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Throughout their courtship and marriage, they were dedicated to each other and mom's gentle care and nursing skills certainly extended dad's life with some quality years. Earlier this year, mom and dad were heartbroken when they suddenly lost their dear, sweet daughter Joyce. Their sons, Dave (Lydia) and Larry (Marilyn) and their son-in-law Dennis will forever miss their father and the love and support that he always gave them. Grandchildren Lisa, Kelly, Kevin (Allison), Melissa (Lukas), Emily, Becky (Steve), Jeff (Krista) and Julie and great- grandchildren Silas, Sloan, Micah and Charlie shared many happy occasions with dad and will cherish fond memories of him for the rest of their lives. Born to Edward and Maud Westlake in Belleville, dad grew up with two brothers and three sisters who all predeceased him. After attending school, he worked in the Quinte area until he moved to Whitby to be closer to his sweetheart, Thelma. Before enlisting in the Army for the Second World War, dad worked for GM. Returning from Europe, mom and dad married and he returned to GM and finally retired in 1975. During his 41 years of retirement, he remained active and productive, fishing, golfing, travelling and spending many hours in his vegetable garden. A celebration of dad's life will be held on Sunday, June 5th at Mount Lawn Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby. Visitation starts at 1:30 p.m. and the service commences at 3 p.m. A reception and lunch with follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
